Which is better rust remover or rust converter?
The result of a rust remover provides a bare metal surface that will require further process treatments. The result of a rust converter is best used for corrosion control and things that you may want to eventually paint – think boats, car bodies and fences.
The key difference between a rust converter and a rust remover is that one causes rust to separate away from the metal surface while the other converts rust to a stable compound.
BEST USE: If you will eventually paint the object, like a storage tank, automotive body part or fence railing, you'll want to use a rust converter. Even better is to use a rust converter and primer in one - that way you only have to apply one coat.
Apply product when the temperature is between 50 and 100 degrees F. It's best to avoid applying Rust Converter in direct sunlight or under very damp conditions. Do not apply if the surface temperature is below 50 degrees F.

Once rust sets in it can be hard to stop. There are stopgap measures to slow it down a bit, like spraying on a rust penetrant like WD-40 to dissolve the rust down to bare metal. But it needs to be resprayed often to prevent further rust, as it can quickly wear off leaving the metal exposed to further rusting.

That newly exposed surface will then also become rusty, and the process will continue all around your car if left unchecked. To stop this development in its tracks, use a wire brush to remove it, then grind down the rough surface with a grinding wheel, and use sandpaper to achieve a smooth surface.
White Vinegar
It is very effective as a rust remover as the rust simply reacts with the vinegar and dissolves. If the item you are removing rust from is small enough to be submerged in a bath of white vinegar, simply leave it in there for a few hours and then wipe the paste off.
- Rinse the metal item and shake dry.
- Dust with baking soda (it will stick to the damp areas), making sure to cover all rusty areas.
- Leave the item for an hour or so, then scour with steel wool or a metal brush, removing the rust down to the metal. (If cleaning a pan, use a scouring pad.)
