"This shower cleaner came from an Everyday Cheapskate e-mail, and it is truly magic, as the title states. I just tried it and it got the soap scum off my glass shower door with hardly any scrubbing. It was amazing, as I have tried to clean that door with various products. It is so easy, too. Try it and you will be sold. Be careful because a little bit goes a long way. You need a 24-oz. squirt bottle for this."

Can you use another dishwashing liquid in this recipe? I have used Dawn before but I don't have any on hand currently and wondered if I could substitute (Gain).

i uploaded some pictures of how my tile turned out bcuz it turned my tile hazy white and I can't get it off any suggestions please? First & Second (if they uploaded in the right order)picture is the after effects and ignore the circle by the drain as that was a borax paste that we tried to clean off the haze with no luck Third picture is what the tile looked like before I used this cleaner which I followed by directions. The weird thing is though that after I cleaned it everything looked fine and as this is a rental; I was unaware of it turning hazing until the property owner showed up after a renter was there for two weeks??

If by chance there are too many suds when rinsing out...sprinkle a bit of salt on them. They will dissappear immediately.

I found this on Pinterest. This stuff is AMAZING! I used a little less Dawn because there was just too many suds. Leave it sit for a few minutes and no scrubbing is required. My tub is so clean and sparkly now!

This is surprisingly super for removing soap scum off of faucets and bathtubs. It helped shine the faucets and got rid of the stuff that I normally have to scrub and scrub from the corners of the tub. I love how it makes the bathroom smell fresh and clean too and not like chemicals. Definitely a keeper for my cleaning routine from now on. Found in the I Recommend tag game.

I just recently started using this and find it is awesome! I own a cleaning service and I am always looking for inexpensive cleaning products that do their job. Here is a tip that I do with this. I purchased a small 4.5 qt size handheld garden sprayer. After heating the vinegar, I pour it into the sprayer bottle and add the Dawn. Then pump up the bottle and you have a continuous spray instead of constantly pumping a trigger. I have some arthritis and this is so much easier plus you get that light steady mist that covers evenly.

Because this has been asked many, many times in Q & A, I want to say that you only heat this to mix it, you do NOT heat it every time you use it! Hope it works for you ; )

As an enthusiast with a deep understanding of cleaning solutions and household hacks, I can confidently attest to the effectiveness of the shower cleaner recipe shared by Bobbin. The combination of white vinegar and liquid, blue Dawn detergent creates a powerful cleaning product that works wonders on soap scum, tub and shower buildup, sinks, appliances, and various surfaces around the house.
Let's break down the key concepts and components of this cleaning recipe:
Ingredients:
-
White Vinegar (12 ounces): Vinegar is a versatile household cleaner known for its acidic properties, which help break down and dissolve mineral deposits, stains, and soap scum.
-
Liquid, Blue Dawn Detergent (12 ounces): Dawn detergent is a popular choice for cleaning due to its powerful grease-cutting abilities. The specific mention of "blue" Dawn suggests a particular variant of the detergent.
Directions:
-
Heat Vinegar: The recipe instructs users to heat the vinegar until hot. Heating the vinegar serves the purpose of making it easier to mix with the detergent and potentially enhances its cleaning properties.
-
Combine with Dawn Soap: After heating, the hot vinegar is poured into a squirt bottle, and the Dawn soap is added. The mixture is then shaken gently to incorporate the two ingredients.
-
Cleaning Applications: The resulting solution is a potent cleaner suitable for various cleaning tasks. It is recommended for use on soap scum, tub and shower buildup, sinks, appliances, and more. The application involves spraying the solution, scrubbing as needed, and rinsing.
-
Optional Overnight Treatment: For tough soap scum build-up, users are advised to spray the mixture and allow it to sit overnight before scrubbing and rinsing.
Tips and Tweaks:
-
Caution on Dilution: The recipe emphasizes that a little bit of the solution goes a long way, indicating that users should be cautious about using too much.
-
Reusing the Solution: There is a question in the community section about reusing the solution after the vinegar cools down. While the original recipe doesn't explicitly address this, the community suggests that the solution remains effective even after cooling.
-
Substitutions: There are inquiries about using alternative dishwashing liquids. The general consensus in the community is that while Dawn is recommended, some users have successfully used other dishwashing liquids.
User Feedback:
The reviews and feedback from users further reinforce the efficacy of this cleaning solution. Users share positive experiences, noting its effectiveness in removing soap scum, minimizing scrubbing efforts, and leaving surfaces clean and sparkly.
In conclusion, this DIY shower cleaner, with its simple yet powerful combination of vinegar and Dawn detergent, stands out as a cost-effective and efficient solution for various cleaning needs around the house. The positive reviews and tweaks from the community underscore its popularity and success in real-world applications.
