The five languages include words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, tangible gifts, and physical touch. When applied in the workplace, these languages help business owners effectively acknowledge and reward employees.
Words of Affirmation – Some employees appreciate verbal acknowledgment that their work is appreciated. A simple “good job” to the employee or publicly recognizing – perhaps during a meeting – a job well done will be received best by employees whose primary language of appreciation is through words of affirmation.
What is a Culture of Appreciation? A culture of appreciation is one where employees feel valued and celebrated for all their efforts and hard work. Managers and HR leaders in such a culture actively ensure that employees are shown their worth by not having to second-guess their place at the company.
What are the love languages? We all give and receive love in 5 different ways: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. These are called 'love languages' - a concept created by Dr. Gary Chapman through his long-time work as a marriage counsellor.

If your goal is to learn, listen, understand, and honor a culture without benefit to yourself, you are most likely showing appreciation. It is a good idea to learn about and honor other cultures. Examples of Appreciation: Buying cultural art created by someone from that culture.
For example, appreciating and sharing the culture being celebrated by wearing culturally appropriate clothing at a celebrated event — as opposed to appropriation, such as going to a music festival wearing a costume the imitates a culture that is solely intended to get attention or likes on social media.
What is a positive work culture? Simply put, a positive work culture is one that prioritizes the well-being of employees, offers support at all levels within the organization, and has policies in place that encourage respect, trust, empathy, and support.
Public recognition and private recognition are both cardinal practices to make employees feel valued. Private recognition through bonuses, raises and lifestyle benefits all work well, especially for employees who prefer to stay out of the limelight.
Team games like a scavenger hunt, blind drawing, office trivia, or the mind field are a great way to have fun, boost engagement, and show some appreciation. Plus, they offer a great opportunity for your team members to get to know one another in a fun setting and environment.

Words of affirmation are words that communicate your love, appreciation, and respect for another person. They're positive words and phrases used to uplift someone. What's more, these compliments and words of encouragement don't have to be said directly to the person.
When a colleague's least important language of appreciation is Words of Affirmation, no matter how much praise you give them, it misses the mark. They will not feel encouraged or appreciated from compliments, notes of appreciation, or recognition in front of team members.
Appreciative communication also includes appreciative compliments. These should not be nice but empty phrases, but genuine appreciation. For example, in a conversation with your colleague: "I appreciate that I always get the statistics from you on time. It allows me to work in a much more relaxed way."
What Is Quality Time? When it comes to Gary Chapman's five love languages, quality time is the one that centers around togetherness. It's all about expressing your love and affection with your undivided attention. When you're with your partner, you put down the cell phone, turn off the tablet, and focus on them.
While using words is one way to show staff members that you value them, many employees prefer appreciation shown through the language of Quality Time. By Quality Time, we mean spending time with a colleague either by giving the person your focused attention, or working collaboratively with them.
If you take the time to write these things down on paper, you'll be amazed at what you come up with. I'd like for you to develop the habit of practicing the four A's (Appreciation, Approval, Admiration, and Attention).
Some suggest following the 3 P's rule: present tense, personal, and positive. This means that we want the affirmations: 1) to be couched as if they were already happening; 2) to relate to us meaningfully; and 3) to be aspirational.
The most effective affirmations follow the 3 P's of affirmations: Positive, Present, and Personal. The most common mistake people make with affirmations is choosing poorly written affirmations.
Title it something like “Why I love my job”, and write down everything that you enjoy about your daily work life. Your list should, hopefully, include points such as: I work with supportive colleagues who make me smile. I work in an area that interests me and inspires me to learn.
