In the second quarter of 2023, mobile messaging app Signal registered almost 3.74 million downloads in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, down from over five million downloads in the same region during the previous quarter. In 2021, users have found in mobile apps like Telegram or Signal an alternative to market leader WhatsApp, after the controversial privacy policy update the app required. However, after an increase of more than 45 percent in January 2021, Signal has been losing a large part of the daily active users it had gained at the beginning of the year.
