Anything that can be used to satisfy a need is a resource. Resources can be found all around us. Examples- air, water, car, train, forest, etc.

As the statement says, the Earth has enough resources (i.e. renewable and non-renewable) to satisfy everyone's needs; however, these needs should be fulfilled, by keeping in mind the sustainable use of these resources.

Every society is endowed with resources which are used to produce the goods and services that enable it to survive and prosper. These resources, called productive resources, can be classified into three groups: natural resources, human resources, and capital resources.

“The Earth has enough resources to meet the needs of all but not enough to satisfy the greed of even one person”. This statement is relevant to the discussion of development since both resources and development go hand in hand. For the sustainability of development, the maintenance of resources is also crucial.

Everything in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs, provided, it is technologically accessible, economically feasible and culturally acceptable can be termed as resource.

Oil, coal, natural gas, metals, stone and sand are natural resources. Other natural resources are air, sunlight, soil and water. Animals, birds, fish and plants are natural resources as well. Natural resources are used to make food, fuel and raw materials for the production of goods.

As our culture advanced and our species invented many things that will make our lives easier, our demand for raw materials increased by leaps and bounds. We get these resources from the other. The problem is, we're using too much and without care. Our planet just can't keep up with our ever increasing demands.

Overconsumption is partly caused by the increasing population in many areas around the world. Larger populations require more food, water, and energy, and consequently tax the earth's ability to replace used resources. Overpopulation depletes wildlife to dangerously low levels.

Humanity is using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet's biocapacity can regenerate. That's equivalent to using the resources of 1.7 Earths.

A common resource refers to any finite or scarce resource with a valuable benefit to society. However, no one possesses or is solely entitled to it. Forests, water, atmosphere, irrigation systems, and fishing grounds are good examples of common resources.

Material resources include wood, glass (which comes from sand), metals, edible plants, and plastics (which are made from natural chemicals). Renewable material resources, like glass, can be re-created easily. Every object humans have made is built from one or more of these resources.
