Raiz App (2024)

Why Raiz?

What is Raiz?

Raiz is a financial service App, helping you to save and invest your money. We enable Malaysians to start early, invest often, and reach their financial goals. Raiz in Malaysia is a partnership between Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Raiz Invest Australia Limited. In Australia, Raiz is listed on the stock exchange and has over 200,000 customers since 2016.

How does Raiz work?

Raiz works by allowing you to proactively invest small amounts of money into a diversified portfolio of assets.

One key feature is round-ups; we round up your everyday purchases to the next Ringgit, and invest the spare change. Make sure you set your debit card at Spending Account so we can track your purchases and do the round-ups.

Besides round-ups, you may also invest a lump sum amount by entering any amount on the “Invest” screen of the app. You may also set up recurring investments on a daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

What makes Raiz different?

A personalised investment portfolio, no account minimums, no commissions, and fractional investing – all in your pocket. Raiz wants to make investing more accessible for everyone, and at the same time give you a service which makes saving and investing easy.

Opening an account

What do I need to get started?

After you’ve installed the free Raiz app, all you’ll need to start investing is:

  • Link your Spending Account to monitor your spending for round-up opportunities
  • Link your Funding Account to fund all your investments
  • Link your Withdrawal Account to receive all your withdrawals
What’s involved in the signup process?

We’ve kept the signup process as painless as possible. Simply provide your email address, choose a secure password, link a Spending Account, Funding Account as well as a Withdrawal Account, and answer a few questions about yourself. Once that’s done, we will verify your account as soon as we can.

What is account verification?

Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001 obliges institutions such as Raiz to identify and verify a customer’s identity. Therefore, we ask for some basic information (full name, home address, etc.) for your account verification. We will verify your account as quickly as we can once we have this information. Therefore, it’s very important that you enter information accurately. If we have trouble verifying your information we'll reach out to you.

Please note that your money will not be invested until your identity is verified.

You can be sure that Raiz will take care of any information you provide and that our procedures will be in accordance with our Privacy Policy

Is there a minimum age requirement to open an account?

You must be at least 18 years old and a Malaysian citizen to open an account with Raiz.

Is there a minimum investment amount required to open an account?

No, Raiz has no minimum account balance requirement to open an account, but in order for you to start investing into your recommended portfolio, your investment must amount to at least RM5. This is also conveniently done through our round-up process; each time you make a purchase, those rounds-ups accumulate towards the RM5 threshold.

What happens if I delete the Raiz App from my device, or get a new phone?

Raiz operates in the cloud and your account and investments are safe even if you delete the App or get a new phone or device. When you login from a new device, a security alert will be sent to your email.

Your automatic round-ups and recurring deposits will still be processed even if the Raiz app is not currently installed.

Can I close my account at any time?

Yes, you can request to close your Raiz account anytime through the app. Click on the Menu button, go to My Settings > Support > Close Account.

Your Funding Account and Spending Account will be unlinked, and your remaining balance, if any, will be transferred to your Withdrawal Account. It normally takes 4 business days for your money to reach your Withdrawal Account.

Please note that your account closure will only be completed once there is no pending transaction.

Alternatively, you may contact us via email at help@raiz.com.my or call us at +60327146114 for us to assist you with closing your Raiz account.

Please also note that uninstalling the app does not close your account.

My investment portfolio

How is my investment portfolio determined?

The answers that you provide during the sign-up process will be used to determine your risk profile. The algorithm used by Raiz will then recommend an investment portfolio for you based on your risk profile.

There are 4 portfolios; Conservative (low risk), Moderate (medium risk), Aggressive (high risk), and Custom Portfolio – please refer to the Account Opening Agreement for more information.

What do I own in my portfolio?

Your investment portfolio is comprised of unit trust funds. The funds in your portfolio may include asset classes such as bonds, shares, gold, cash, and commodities. You do not own the assets in the portfolio directly.

Can I change my portfolio?

Yes. If you change your mind at any point, you have the option to switch to a portfolio which has not been recommended to you. As each portfolio carries different levels of risk, please note that you may be exposed to risks that are below or above your risk tolerance if you change your portfolio. Your new portfolio will be changed within 7 business days. No fees will be charged for portfolio switching.

Can I invest in individual stocks, bonds or other securities of my choice through Raiz, or opt out of some of Raiz’ investments?

You cannot opt out of any of the unit trust funds in Raiz’s portfolio, nor of the stocks, bonds or securities of which the unit trust funds are comprised. You also do not have the option of choosing to invest in other stocks, bonds, or other securities or currency.

Is there risk involved in my investment?

Yes. The securities you own are subject to market fluctuations. This is why we advocate long-term investment goals. For more information about our investment methodology and risks associated with each investment please refer to the relevant sections of the Account Opening Agreement on our website.

What are unit trusts?

Unit trusts are a form of collective investment that allows investors with similar investment objectives to pool their funds to be invested in a portfolio of securities or other assets.

What is automatic rebalancing?

Automatic rebalancing is Raiz’s method of maintaining your specific portfolio allocation. Market fluctuations may cause some of the securities in your portfolio to appreciate or depreciate in value. When this occurs, we use automatic rebalancing to bring your portfolio back to its specified allocation. This ensures that the securities in your investment account are proportioned correctly.

How does Raiz rebalance my portfolio?

Raiz automatically rebalances your portfolio as you invest. Every time you deposit or withdraw funds, we adjust the proportions of the unit trust funds purchased to move your account towards its target portfolio allocation.

We also periodically review, typically on a monthly basis, and rebalance your portfolio whenever the percentage holding of one or more funds fluctuates 5% above or below its target allocation. We sell overrepresented funds and use the proceeds to buy underrepresented funds to bring your portfolio towards its target allocation.

Rebalancing also occurs whenever you request to change your portfolio. We adjust the allocation of each fund to match the new risk profile. We sell overrepresented funds and use the proceeds to buy underrepresented funds to bring your portfolio in line with its new target allocation. This rebalancing occurs within 7 business days of a portfolio change request.

Won’t I earn distributions from my portfolio?

Yes, you will! Your distributions will be automatically reinvested in your portfolio. You can view your distribution history through the Raiz app.

How often do I get dividends?

The funds that make up your portfolio distribute dividends, if any, at their discretion and on varying schedules. Worth to note that some may choose to distribute, some may choose not to, and let the capital appreciate.

For more information on these funds i.e. its financial year end and distribution history, please refer to the prospectus of each individual fund, which can be found on their websites, or contact us.

    How does Raiz make money?

Raiz is completely free to download. Once an account is opened, there are no fees on RM0 balances and after that we only charge RM1.50 per month for accounts with a balance under RM6,000 and 0.30% per year (charged monthly, computed daily), for accounts with a balance of RM6,000 and over.

How and when does Raiz charge its fee?

A monthly account fee of RM1.50 is payable if your Raiz Investment Account has a value of less than RM6,000 at the end of each month. This fee is to cover the cost of administering your Raiz Investment Account. The fee will be charged to your debit card set as your Funding Account. If we fail to charge the Account Fee from your Funding Account, we may charge it to your Raiz Investment Account by disposing sufficient units in your Raiz Investment Account equivalent to the Account Fee.

If your Raiz Investment Account has a value of RM6,000 and more at the end of the month, the fee payable is 0.025%% per month of the Raiz Investment Account balance which will be charged to your Raiz Investment Account.

    Are there withdrawal fees?

No. It is always free to move money in and out of your Raiz account.

No, there are no fees on RM0 balances.

    Round-ups

Where does the round-up money come from?

Round-up funds come from the Funding Account that you connect as a funding source for Raiz. For example, if you spend RM3.60 using your bank card, then that RM0.40 will eventually come out of your Funding Account when the round-ups add up to RM5.00 or your selected threshold.

How do I set automatic round-ups?

Automatic round-ups can be turned on and off by going to the home page, to “Invest”, to “Round-Ups”, to the cog symbol on the top-right once, and then again.

Can I still use round-ups without making them automatic?

No. If automatic round-ups are turned off, you will not be able to use the round-up feature.

Is there a limit on the number of cards I can use for round-ups?

Yes. For now, you can only link one Maybank debit card to your Spending Account for round-ups.

Will there be a round-up on even amounts of money?

Yes, even amounts will round up an entire Ringgit. For example, if you spend RM5.00 using your bank card, that transaction will be rounded up to RM6.00.

What happens if my linked card is lost or stolen?

Your account with Raiz is not at risk if your linked card is lost or stolen. However, we recommend that you change the card from your Raiz account. This can be done by going to “My Settings”, and then to “Spending Account”.

    Raiz Kids

    What is Raiz Kids?

Raiz Kids provides the ability to save and invest for your children and/or dependents who are under the age of 18. Raiz Kids is not a separate account for your child. Instead, Raiz Kids sits within your current Raiz account as a new feature.

If you would like to know more about Raiz Kids, check out our blog here

    How does it work?

Raiz Kids works by using your pre-existing Raiz account. You are able to select the portion of your balance that goes towards the Raiz Kids saving goals. At any time, you can split the portion of your current balance to Raiz Kids. Raiz Kids will then equally split among the dependents you have added.

For example, if you have selected RM500 of your total balance of RM1,000, 50% of it (RM500/RM1,000) will go towards your Raiz Kids. If you then put in a RM10 recurring deposit, 50% of this (RM5) will also go towards the Raiz Kids goals.

Any subsequent investment made by you will go towards the Raiz Kids according to the proportion you have selected earlier.

How is the split set up between my balance and Raiz Kids?

You are able to select the portion of your balance that goes towards the Raiz Kids goals at any time. By using the slider within the Raiz Kids section of the app, it will recalculate when you select a new partition amount.

What are the benefits to me/my children?

With Raiz Kids, you can apply the same Raiz philosophy of regular automatic investments, watching it grow for you and your children in the background of life. Depending on the Raiz Kid's age, there is a calculated estimated value for that goal when your Raiz Kid turns 18. Please keep in mind, past performance is not an indication of future returns. However, we believe investing regularly is one of the keys to having a healthier balance over the long run.

What happens when they turn 18?

Once your Raiz Kids reach the age of 18, they are then able to open their own Raiz Account, with the option of having these funds transferred into their account. Otherwise, the funds will remain within your account as it will not be transferred automatically.

Do I need to have a funding account linked?

Yes. In order to make an investment, including round-ups investment, recurring investment or a lump sum investment, you will need to have a Funding Account linked up.

If you haven't done this already, you can do this by going through the Raiz app by going to My Settings > Funding Account > Add a new funding account.

What does Raiz Kids mean for tax?

Any realised gains through the user’s Raiz account, including all realised gains from Raiz Kids portfolios are the responsibility of the Raiz Account holder and not the Raiz Kids.

Can each of my Raiz Kids be in different portfolios?

No, they cannot. Whichever portfolio you have selected for yourself, this will be the portfolio in which your Raiz Kids goals will grow.

Can I remove my Raiz Kids?

Yes, you are able to edit and remove your Raiz Kids at any time within both the web app and the mobile app. To do so, please visit the Invest section of the app. You will be able to find the Raiz Kids section whereby you can easily do as you like. If you do remove a Raiz Kid, your balance will then automatically recalculate and split equally across any remaining Raiz Kids.

Can I still withdraw my balance if it is split into Raiz Kids?

Yes, the balance will withdraw equally among the partitioned amount. For example, if 15% of your total balance is split to go into Raiz Kids, and you wish to withdraw RM100, then RM15 of that will come from the Raiz Kids goals.

    Custom Portfolio

    What is the Custom Portfolio?

The Custom Portfolio allows you to build your own personalised portfolio by choosing the portfolio allocation from a selection of unit trust funds. Your Custom Portfolio is unique to you.

    How does it work?

Once you have selected the Custom Portfolio option on the top of the portfolio screen, you can use a slider at the bottom of the screen to select the percentage for each unit trust funds in your portfolio. You can set the percentage allocation of each fund within the allowable range.

Can I change the allocations in my custom portfolio?

You can adjust the allocations of your Custom Portfolio. This rebalancing occurs within ten business days of a portfolio change request. We do not charge any fees for these changes.

Custom Portfolio is not a trading tool and changing your portfolio too frequently is not recommended.

To change your allocations of your Custom Portfolio, click on the ‘Edit portfolio’ button on the Custom Portfolio screen in the app. Once you are done editing and want to save the changes, click on 'Save Allocation'.

    Custom Portfolio rebalancing

If, due to market movement and performance, the allocation of one or more of your unit trust funds in the Custom Portfolio changes by more than 5% of the nominated percentage, then the portfolio will automatically rebalance, to realign your portfolio to the originally nominated allocation.

What is the maximum allocation I can have for a specific investment?

You can have up to a 90% allocation in any one fund. Gold fund, however, is capped at 30%.

Can I move from a Custom Portfolio to another Raiz Portfolio?

Yes, you can switch at any time with no additional fees.

How do I change the name of my Custom Portfolio?

Just click 'Edit portfolio' on the Custom Portfolio screen and then click on the name of the portfolio once you are in editor mode. To save your name, click on 'Save Allocation'.

What does the 'Risk Scale' mean?

The risk scale is automatically adjusted based on the allocations you select for your Custom Portfolio. If your risk scale is skewed towards the orange (High) side of the slider, it means that your portfolio has a higher level of risk compared to one that is towards the green (Low) side.

    Raiz Rewards

    What is Raiz Rewards?

Raiz Rewards is our cashback loyalty program. When you shop online with our brand partners through Raiz, you will receive a cash reward invested back into your active Raiz Investment Account!

    Who are the partner brands?

You can find them in the Raiz Rewards section in the app. We add new brands all the time so be sure to check back from time to time for new brands you can earn cash rewards with.

    How do I shop?

In the Raiz Rewards section in the app, click on the brand you would like to purchase from. Click the “Shop Online Here” link and make your purchase immediately. By clicking the link, we will be able to automatically track your purchase and invest eligible cash rewards into your Raiz account. Make sure your browser is not in incognito mode too.

How much cash rewards will be invested from my purchase?

Our brand partners will invest a certain percentage of your purchase price (or a fixed amount) back into your Raiz account. The percentage (or the fixed amount) will be different according to the brands. Please make sure to check the Terms & Conditions for each brand before you shop.

Note that Raiz may also be paid a certain percentage of your purchase price (or a fixed amount) for promoting the partner brands.

When will I get the cash rewards invested into my Raiz account?

Your cash rewards are only awarded for successful purchases. Please note that it may take longer than you think, after considering each brand’s cancellation / return / exchange period. This may take up to 190 days.

You will automatically have your cash reward invested when we have received the payment from your brand.

What if I still haven’t received my cash reward after the period specified?

Email help@raiz.com.my with a copy of the receipt. We will escalate it to your brand to investigate. Please note that as per the Terms & Conditions, the outcome of the brand investigation will be final and binding by Raiz.

Why do some brands become “unavailable” sometimes?

That is because the brand has decided to temporarily stop their cash reward program. Not to worry, you are still entitled for your Raiz Rewards for the purchases you have made in the past. The brand may resume its program so check it out at your Raiz Rewards section from time to time.

What are the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs)?

Each brand has unique T&Cs. Please check the details in the app for each respective brand in the Raiz Rewards section of the app. The product and delivery of any purchased product is at the discretion and control of the brand. This includes the product specifics and the timing of deliveries. If you have any dissatisfaction with your service or product, please get in contact with them directly.

A brand that I like is not there. Can I request for the brand to be in the Raiz Rewards program?

Of course! Let us know what brand you like, and we will strive to get in contact with them. You can get in touch with us at help@raiz.com.my or call us on +60327146114. Please also feel free to contact the brand you like and share your thoughts on Raiz with them too – that will help us a lot!
