Enterprise System Implementation from the Functional Consultants’ Perspective

Although Enterprise System (ES) implementation (formerly Enterprise Resource Planning systems) literature is extremely broad, most of it takes the perspective of the implementing organisation and its employees, i.e., project managers, key users and users. The fact that it is both possible and popular to conduct such a complicated, time-consuming and expensive project using functional consultants is largely omitted. This study explores the Enterprise System implementation project from the perspective of the functional consultants and is based on the analysis of project documentation and interviews. The research questions answered by this study include the consultants’ requirements from other project participants, which help them to accomplish the goals of each project phase, to complete the activities performed in each project phase, and to deliver the products that are requested of them.

oday's property management envi- ronment is a com- plex maze of regulations, contractual issues and, more than ever, empha- sis on cost savings initia- tives. Corporations, agencies, universities and other property hold- ers are all looking for ways to reduce costs, while maintaining fully compliant property management systems. Many cost reduction measures have involved cutting staff and often, expertise. To fill this void, managers have turned more and more to property management consultants. This article addresses the consulting process from the client's perspective, including what consulting services are available, how to find the right consultant for your company, effective man- agement of the consultant's efforts to maximize the bene- fit, and finally, evaluating the success of the effort.

In project management consulting practice, methodologies are crucial for successful delivery. Whiles many works exist in literature on research methodology, literature on project management consulting methodology is dearth. An amalgamation of both research methodology and project consulting methodology is scarce in terms of extant literature. The primary aim of this paper was to systematically review existing literature from methodological dimension of research with emphasis on methodologies adopted by world class consulting companies in order to draw inferences, synthesis and analysis to drive the development of consulting methodologies for project management. Methodologically, this study adopted the axiological philosophy by dwelling on induction and inference through systematic review of extant literature on consulting methodology and action research. In this direction, this paper reviewed papers published in peer reviewed journals and works related to methodologies adopted by top consulting firms. The study found that consulting research is the driver for developing a vibrant consulting industry. Theoretically, the hypothesis formulated and the future research identified has the potential of initiating further research works towards methodology development for project management consulting practice. Practically, it can be deduced that methodologies are blueprint for consulting firms and research is the foundation for developing pragmatic consulting methodologies. By implication, this paper provides the understanding of elements required for developing project management consulting methodologies.
