‘Humans Will Live In Metaverse Soon’, Claims Mark Zuckerberg. What About Reality? (2024)

The social network business, which recently lost a third of its market value following a disappointing earnings report, has put a lot of money into its new focus on establishing the metaverse and changed its name to reflect this goal.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, mankind will migrate into the metaverse in the future, leaving reality behind for a world that we create and govern entirely. He claims that there will come a moment when virtual worlds are so absorbing and handy that we will not want to leave, at which point the metaverse will emerge. He added that while these virtual reality worlds aren't quite there yet, many individuals currently spend much of their time in the digital realm, albeit on 2D displays. 'A lot of people assume the metaverse is about a location, but one description of it is a period when immersive digital worlds become the primary way we live our lives and spend our time,' Zuckerberg told Lex Fridman in the podcast.

Here's my conversation with Mark Zuckerberg, including a few opening words from me on Ukraine, Putin, and war. Reports suggest that Meta intends to spend the next five to ten years creating an immersive virtual environment that includes fragrance, touch, and sound to allow users to lose themselves in virtual reality. The wealthy creator unveiled an AI system that can be used to construct totally personalized worlds to your own design in a recent update on future plans, and he's working on higher-fidelity avatars and spatial audio to make communication simpler.

Humans are depicted by avatars without legs in the version of Metaverse now accessible from Meta, although Zuckerberg claims that future versions will be more realistic. However, his recent statements to Fridman suggest that, although the metaverse is being built, individuals are now using a complicated virtual environment.

Recent debates over the idea of a metaverse imply that it is more of a 'moment in time than a virtual location. All of the benefits we get from meeting in person, or even via video chats, can be recreated in VR, according to Zuckerberg, within the next five years. 'Everything I do is at the crossroads of technology and computer science.' In the interview, Zuckerberg stated, "What I care about is inventing technology to enable people to engage with one other."
