- As of December 18, 2023, our expedited service commitment is to process your passport application within 15 business days. If you applied between November 6 and December 17, 2023, we processed expedited applications within 25 business days.
- A business day includes Mondays through Fridays, and excludes federal holidays.
Ourprocessing times begin the day we receive your applicationat a passport agency or center, or from the date you request an upgrade to expedited service. Processing times do not begin on the day you mail your application or apply for a passport at a local acceptance facility.
If the number of business days an agency or center took to process your application is longer than our expedited service commitment, you can request a refund of the $60 expedited service fee. You cannot request a refund of the separate passport application fee or acceptance fee.
IMPORTANT NOTE:We consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. We cannot refund passport execution fees, nor refund missed travel. We cannot refund passport application fees except in very limited circ*mstances outlined in 22 C.F.R. § 51.53(a).
Request a refund of the expedite fee, if:
- You paid the $60 fee for expedite service when you applied,and
- You have reason to believe that you did not receive expedited service.
If you applied for expedited service at a passport acceptance facility or through the mail, your application may not arrive at a passport agency or center until 2 weeks after the day you apply. Go to our Application Status page for more information.
Submit your Request Online
- Complete this online request form only if you applied for expedited service and did not receive your passport in the expedited passport service commitment published on this page.
- Include your full legal nameas it appears on your passport application.
- Your 9-digitApplication Numberis available by checking theOnline Passport Status System. You must get this number before submitting your refund request.
- Let us know in thelast formfield (Please explain ...) if you are requesting a refund of the expedited fee for yourself or someone else.
- After you clickSubmit, you should receive an automated email at the email address you provided. Do not submit a second, duplicate request for your refund because it will delay processing your original request.
- Once we receive your request, it will take us up to6 weeks to process your refund.

Due to a technical issue, we did not receive your request for a refund of the $60 passport expedited fee. Double check all form fields and submit your request again. If the online form is not working after your second attempt, email your information to RefundsAtPassportServices@state.gov.
