Many people order pizza when they have a large crowd to feed. Pizza is easy to order, affordable and well liked. If you have an event coming up and need to feed lots of people, here's how to successfully order pizza for everyone who will be attending your event.
Find a Pizza You Like
Start off by finding a pizza place that makes pies you really like. When feeding a whole group of people, you'll want to give them the best food possible. Your event attendees will notice if you have great-tasting pizza.
In most cases, event hosts already know of a great pizza place in their area. If you're hosting an event somewhere outside your area and don't know of a good pizzeria, however, you'll have to find one. Try a slice at a pizzeria and make sure you like it before you place a large order.
Calculate How Much Pizza You'll Need
Before you're able to determine how much pizza to order, you'll first need an estimate of how many people will attend your event. You can base your attendance estimates on RSVPs and previous years' attendance (if you've hosted the event in past years).
Once you have your attendance estimate, multiply the number of attendees by 3/8 to determine how many pizzas you should order. Thus, for 100 attendees you would order 38 pies (100 x 3/8 = 37.5). If you arrive at a number with a decimal, round up to be on the safe side.
This math is based on the average person eating three pieces of pizza, with the typical pie being cut into eight slices. Some people will eat more or less, but three tends to be a common average. If you have any concerns or are ordering pizzas that aren't cut into eight slices, ask the pizzeria you're ordering from for advice. They'll be able to help you calculate how much to order.
Mix Up the Toppings
When deciding what types of pizza to get, don't be afraid to be adventurous. Cheese, pepperoni and veggie are classic choices, but there are many more creative pizzas that people like. Think about including some of the following in your order:
- Hawaiian (pineapple and ham)
- Greek white (olive oil, herbs, feta cheese and tomatoes)
- Pepperoni and banana pepper
- Buffalo chicken (Buffalo sauce and chicken)
- Anchovy
Not all of these will be loved by everyone at your event. In a large group, however, there are bound to be some people who like these different pizzas - and will be pleasantly surprised to find them at an event.
Remember Dietary Restrictions
As you select what pizzas to order, make sure to include a few options for people with dietary restrictions. Include in your order a:
- Cheese-free pizza for people who are lactose intolerant
- Gluten-free pizza for people who can't eat gluten
- Meat-free pizza for vegetarians
Additionally, ask the pizza place to clearly label these and make sure attendees know these pizzas are options.
Order Some Finger-Friendly Vegetables
Along with the pizzas, order a tray (or multiple trays) of finger-friendly vegetables. Some attendees who aren't used to eating pizza may want a healthier alternative, such as a salad.
Vegetable trays provide the same healthy option as a salad in a more event-friendly format. Attendees can select some finger-friendly vegetables and spoon some dip onto their tray. You won't have to worry about furnishing silverware, salad dressing packets or even offering tables. Fingerfriendly vegetables can be eaten standing up if necessary, just as pizza can be.
