How do transactions show up on a bank statement?

This one's been bugging me for a while. I have parents who have recently been trying to help me manage my money before starting my new job, but they can often be a bit nosy with *what* I spend my money on. I'm looking to buy something from a friend but I was just wondering how a simple goods purchase using an email address will show up on my bank statement. Is it common practice to put the receiver's email address on the statement or will it just show a paypal transaction?

This would be really handy in helping me make a desicion. Thank you.

Hi there Adaml_288,

Generally if you pay for an item using your bank account it will show up as a direct debit payment to PayPal. If you send a payment to a friend or family member and you choose the option of a personal payment then it will also just show as PayPal.

If you purchase an item from a seller using your card is may show up as their name on your statement.

I hope this helps

Paula
