Adventure Gold (AGLD) is the ERC-20 token of the Loot project. Deployed on Ethereum in September 2021, AGLD was initially deployed via an airdrop to members of the Loot NFT community.

Despite lacking any meaningful use, AGLD has a respectable market capitalisation of $32.9m, derived from a fully diluted circulating supply of 70.17 million tokens valued at $0.47each (as of 8 June).

The Loot project

Loot was created by Dom Hoffman, who first gained fame as the creator of the social media app Vine, which was sold to Twitter in 2012 for $30m.

Loot is an NFT project. Butrather than going through the hassle of designing pieces of art, Loot NFTs consist of lists of randomised “adventure gear”, typed in the extremely commonTimes New Roman font. Items include mesh belts, silver rings, chain boots and studded leather armour.

In total, there are 8,000 of these unique bags of adventure gear, of which 7,779are tradeable on OpenSea, with the rest held in a deployer account. Loot has a floor price of 0.87ETH. 74,000ETH worth of loot has been traded thus far.

While Loot may seem rudimentary at face value, an expansive community has been built around the project. The tradeable nature of these loot bags has given birth to dozens of blockchain-based gaming platforms, including Dungeons and Dragons-inspired projects such asLoot Dungeon. AGLD has seen a long-tail downtrend since encountering a high of $4.74 on 5 October 2021. By December, the token was trading at around $2.50 before dropping to $1.70 on 1 January 2022. Adventure Gold broke below the $1 barrier on 21 January, before dropping to $0.81 by the end of the month.
