Thank you CreditRepair.com for sponsoring this post. CreditRepair.com’s team understands that a credit score is not just a number; it’s a lifestyle.

Oh, these days of our lives – these interesting times!

I tell you – it never gets boring. These days, I’m stunned, proud, and humbled to call myself a mama, a double business owner, and even a small farmer. That’s right – we have a fruit orchard, a vegetable garden, and 19 chickens. Plus the two dogs and a cat too! It hasn’t been an easy journey, and of course, we’re always still finding our footing. There are a few goals in mind. One is having the lifestyle we desire – which includes travel and parties and new winter coats and cable and so much more. That said, there’s also the goal many of us have – to repair our credit score. Right now we’re in a more comfortable place than I ever thought possible. I’d like to also be in an exciting place, which is on the horizon. Did you know it could be comfortable AND exciting?

It can! It just needs some planning.

5 Ways to Repair Your Credit Score This Holiday Season, and Beyond:

1 – Discover CreditRepair.com. They have such a cool mission, which is to empower every individual to achieve the credit scores they deserve, and to enjoy a lifestyle of greater opportunity. I LOVE that. I remember feeling impossible when we were in a much worse financial position several years back. I wish I had found someone to make me feel possible. And CreditRepair.com believes that everyone has a right to achieve dreams and increase their ability.

Let’s talk specifics:

First of all, they’re a leading provider of credit report repair services in the United States, and are a team of credit professionals who educate and empower individuals to achieve the credit scores they deserve. I think that is so powerful. Referring to my own personal journey, Cassidy and I moved here 11 years ago at this exact time of year. We had recently gotten married and were coming here with big dreams, but we didn’t have jobs lined up, we didn’t have savings, and we found out we were (pleasantly) unexpectedly expecting our Scarlet. It was a scary time.

I wish I could say it got easier faster, but it didn’t. We had Scarlet and then Cassidy had a few jobs before he started his current Operations Manager role. Then we had Des, and our credit got worse fast. Everything was an ordeal – travel, holidays, buying groceries, paying bills. We’re super grateful for the help we received and how we got back on our feet slowly. I started working – slowly and steadily – and now I’m busy all of the time. We bought our wonderful house at a time when it was a buyers market and I’m thankful for that. So how can CreditRepair.com help?

So, let’s talk other credit repair tips!

2 – Pay every bill on time. Did you know that even one late payment can hurt your score? I used to have chronic late bill payments because one of my biggest bills didn’t charge late fees so I figured there was no harm in paying it whenever I felt like it. I was so wrong! From this day on, make a vow to pay every bill on time. And if you do have a tough month, you can be smart about which bills you pay late because some will report a late payment to credit bureaus, but some providers – like utilities and cell phone providers – might not. You can actually see on your credit reports which companies will report your late payments.

3 – Keep your older credit cards. That’s right. I’ve had the same one for decades now! Credit history does have an impact on your credit score, and if you’ve had a credit card for over 10 years, you can negatively impact your score by closing that account. If you’re looking to get rid of a credit card account, get rid of newer cards.

4 – Have a credit friend or partner! Hear me out here. See in my case, Cassidy worked on building his credit way before I did. It was like he was the sacrifice because we worked together on his. And then mine was suffering but then we worked on mine. Anyway, he has great credit. So if you have a CLOSE loved one with a credit card with little to no balance and a good payment history, have them add you as an authorized user. Although be careful because if they make a late payment, that affects you too! You’re in this together.

5 – When it’s time, open up a new credit card, but be savvy about it. It can help your credit score. I think the goal to keep in mind, which is what I did when I recently and finally opened up a new credit card, is that you want to pay off the balance for it. You do not want to incur more debt. So make sure to check if the card has an annual fee and if that fee is worth it to you. And also keep in mind that keeping older accounts open is better for your credit score. So opening a new one is not necessarily beneficial. You just have to do it with care! And those are my best tips!
