Entrepreneurship can be an exciting idea, and although a lot of us WANT to start our own businesses, sometimes we’re stuck wondering WHAT kind of business to start?This article is ALL about the different businesses YOU can start- as a couple (with your significant other) or even with your family. You could always do these businesses on your own as well, of course, but everything is more fun when you do it with your favorite people! *wink wink*

Why should I (or we) start a business?

There’s LOTS of reasons you might want to start a business, and of course that’s going to be a bit different for every couple, family or individual. Some of the BIGGEST reasons people decide to start a business, however, include:

Reason #1: You need to make more money.

We live in an age where a lot of people are struggling to live the quality of life they would like to, even with a solid 9-to-5 type of job. When money gets tight, couples (and people in general) think about starting a business or a side hustle to increase their income. This is always a pretty movitating factor- I mean come on, who wouldn’t want more money?

It’s a lot less stressful going through your daily life when the bills aren’t piling up on the counter. A side hustle or new biz can definitely help reduce the pressure of monthly expenses.

Reason #2: You want to SAVE more money.

Another reason couples might be wanting to start a new business is to save money.

Some families need to save money for an emergency fund, sometimes to pay off debt or student loans, and sometimes even to buy a bigger house or a new car.

One of the most popular reasons to save money is to hit your F.I.R.E. (Financial Independence, Retire Early) number and retire.

People everywhere are tired of the rat race and are eager to retire before the age of 50, or sometimes even before 40! What are the benefits of starting a business with my significant other?

Working together as a couple may seem scary or like a bad idea. You might have asked others and been awarded with the response, “don’t mix business with love.”

This is true, but it is also true for anyone starting a business with someone else. So why not at least start one with the person you love and trust.

Starting a business with your significant other does come with some downfalls, but what you don’t hear enough are the benefits!

This is a business you can literally do from ANYWHERE in the world, making it an easy choice for an extra source of income with GREAT potential for growth!

This is very similar to dropshipping- except that you DON’T need to worry about inventory, and you get a LOT more customization options, which can really expand your customer base!

Gig services can be anything- with things as simple and streamlined as being an Uber driver or a DoorDash delivery person, all the way to launching your own service company like social media marketing services, virtual assistant work, video editing and so much more!

The cool thing about the Gig Economy is that you can find a way to monetize (and make a business out of) just about anything if you enjoy it enough- so thinking about what talents and skills YOU have that you could offer to the world is a great place to start!

Okay, so this one’s a bit out of the box, but since it was technically how WE got started in the world of entrepreneurship, it would be CRAZY not to include this here!

Business Idea #6: Handcrafted Goods

Here’s another business idea with SO many different possibilities! From holiday decorations and jewelry to custom wood furniture, if you like making something with your hands, you might want to consider selling it!

This is a great business idea for couples or families to do together- but it does require a bit of product research to find out whether customers are interested in buying your product. You don’t want to spend ten hours making a custom coaster set only to have it sit there forever, without a single interested buyer. On the other hand, you might find out that those mala bracelets you love making are SUPER popular and could make a great profit on Etsy!

This business idea is more hands-on and definitely something you can get passionate about!
